The Congress on Saturday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued silence over repeated assertions by U.S. President Donald Trump that he intervened to broker peace between India and Pakistan during their most recent armed standoff between May 7 and May 10.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a series of posts on microblogging X, highlighted a fresh video clip of Trump recounting his version of events, marking what he said was the 11th such instance in just 21 days.
“When will the PM speak up?” Ramesh asked, tagging the video.
This is 11th time in 21 days that PM @narendramodis great friend and American President Donald Trump has made claims about how the ceasefire with Pakistan took place. When will the PM speak up? https://t.co/w1zPvReTWRJairam Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) May 31, 2025
According to Ramesh, Trump has repeatedly narrated how he intervened to halt what he described as a four-day war between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, even suggesting that his administration used trade measures to prevent further escalation. The Congress leader expressed concern over the U.S. President equating India and Pakistan in his narrative.
“This is the 9th time in 20 days, across 3 countries and 3 cities. Donaldbhai keeps repeating the same sequence of events of how he got the 4-Day India-Pakistan war to stop - US intervention and the use of the trade instrument to stop nuclear escalation. The equivalence of India and Pakistan gets reiterated yet again,” Ramesh noted earlier, using a colloquial reference to Trump. He added that Trump's former Commerce Secretary reiterated similar claims in a submission to the U.S. Court of International Trade on May 23.

“But Donaldbhai’s friend Mr. Narendra Modi continues to ignore his claims with absolute silence,” Ramesh said. “Is President Trump also doing what Mr. Modi does so well — lying? Or is he speaking even 50% truth?”
The Congress has repeatedly urged the Centre to issue a clear rebuttal to Trump’s remarks and object to the perceived equivalence drawn between India and Pakistan.
The government, however, has maintained its long-standing position that all issues with Pakistan must be resolved bilaterally, without third-party mediation.
