Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is in line with the wishes of the Constitution makers.
"Today, we are moving forward by respecting and taking inspiration from the makers of our Constitution. Some people must be thinking of what this UCC is. Those who will read about the Constitution debate will get to know the truth,” said PM Modi while replying to the motion of thanks on the President's address in the Rajya Sabha. "We are respecting the feelings of the makers of Constitution that is why we have brought UCC. Congress disrespected constitution makers right after independence."
According to the PM, nation first is BJP's priority and people have always supported othe party's development model.
The UCC aims to establish a unified set of personal laws that apply to all citizens, regardless of religion, gender, or sexual orientation. According to the BJP, its goal is to bring uniformity in legal provisions across India, particularly in areas such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption.
After Uttarakhand, Gujarat recently announced the implementation of UCC.
