Trains run late, 202 flights face delays as dense fog engulfs Delhi

IMD predicts that the cold wave will persist in the capital for the next couple of days. ‘Dense to very dense fog’ will continue in Delh till Saturday. Noida schools shut for classes up to 8.

At least 24 trains are impacted by dense fog conditions in North India.

Delhi woke up to dense fog on Friday as the cold wave continues in the national capital and in North India. Owing to the weather conditions, the Delhi airport issued an advisory about the delays in flight operations throughout the day. As many as 202 flights were delayed as visibility came down to zero.

All passengers flying in and out of the capital on Friday need to contact their respective airlines to make sure there are no delays, Delhi Airport said in the advisory, adding that presently all flight operations are normal but it is likely that they can take a hit later in the day.

Additionally, major routes in the city are covered in thick fog and have very low visibility.

What IMD said 

The weather department- India Meteorological Department (IMD)- predicted that the cold wave will persist in the capital for the next couple of days. IMD said that ‘dense to very dense fog’ will continue in Delhi on Friday and Saturday.

The minimum temperature in Delhi will be at 8.5 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is expected to be 20 degrees Celsius. IMD predicted that the national capital may receive light to moderate rainfall on January 6.

Trains impacted due to fog

Meanwhile, trains departing from and arriving in Delhi are also running late, while some route are being operated with changed timings. At least 24 trains are impacted by dense fog conditions in North India. IMD warned that dense fog is expected to remain over Delhi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Amritsar and Guwahati while light rain and snow is expected in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

Schools closed in Noida

Schools will remain shut in Noida starting today for classes up to 8, Gautam Buddha Nagar District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma announced amid the cold wave. This order will apply to schools of UP Board, CBSE, and all other boards.
