The locals of Uttar Pradesh's Fulwari village beat a tigress to death after it entered a house and attacked a 45-year-old woman.

The two-year-old stray tigress attacked the woman in the Palia region near Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Wednesday morning. The villagers, including the woman's husband Ratan Lal, hurried to her aid and used sticks to beat the tigress to death.

Saureesh Sahai, Dudhwa Buffer Zone deputy director, said forest officials retrieved the carcass from the village in the Palia tehsil and sent it to the range headquarters, news agency PTI reported.

The official informed that a case against people engaged in killing the tigress has been lodged at Palia police station under provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, and a probe is taken up.

In accordance with the National Tiger Conservation Authority's (NTCA) protocols, the animal's postmortem was performed, and the viscera was transferred to the ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly for a thorough examination.

The injured villagers were admitted to the hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.

In a separate incident, a male tiger was struck by a speeding car on the Bhira-Mailani highway, which is within DTR's Mailani range, a few hours after the Phulwaria incident in the Dudhwa buffer zone.

DTR H Rajamohan, the field director, confirmed that a male tiger had died in a traffic collision and reported that reckless driver Laxman Saud and his vehicle had been arrested.

According to Rengaraju T., Deputy Director of DTR, a case has been filed under the relevant provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, and the driver has been imprisoned.
