Sri Nidhi, a Class 10 student, collapsed and died of a heart attack while walking to school on Thursday morning in Telangana’s Kamareddy district.
The 16-year-old girl hailed from Singarayapalli village in Ramareddy Mandal and was staying in Kamareddy to pursue her studies at a private school.
According to a Times of India report, this incident happened months after similar incidents, including the death of Mohit Chaudhary, a Class 6 student from Aligarh’s Sirauli village, who suffered a heart attack during a practice run for his school’s annual sports day.
An eight-year-old girl, Diksha, from the same district, also died of a heart attack while playing with her friends a few days ago.
Sri Nidhi reportedly experienced chest pain near the school premises and collapsed. The teacher rushed her to a hospital, where doctors administered CPR and provided initial treatment, but she didn't respond. She was referred to another hospital, where the doctors declared her dead due to cardiac arrest.
In shock over the incident, the teachers and students are struggling to comprehend how a young student could suffer a fatal heart attack.
Nidhi’s body has been taken back to her hometown for final rites.
Health experts are also concerned about the rising cases of sudden cardiac arrests.
Professor M Rabbani from Aligarh Muslim University said that there is a 22% increase in such deaths over the past two decades.
"If any healthy person dies within an hour, it is called sudden cardiac arrest. If a child complains of shortness of breath and chest pain, immediate medical attention is necessary," he said.
