Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis believes that one should not be afraid of artificial intelligence (AI) but embrace it.

"Technology is like a horse, you have to ride on it. We can't be afraid of it and stop it but instead, we have to make compromises and go ahead with it and make it useful," Fadnavis said. He was speaking at a programme of CII Young Indians in Nashik on March 23.

He also said that whenever there is  new technology, there is some kind of resistance and fear. "Be it the invention of computers or the IT revolution. When computers were introduced, people said it'll takeover our jobs," he said.

He spoke about a survey that said AI will reduce 22 crore jobs but create 24 crore more jobs.

"Today, when we talk about AI, 5 years ago, a very reputed international institution did a survey and concluded that AI will reduce 22 crore jobs but also said that it will create 24 crore more jobs. We have to adapt to this transition. We cannot stop AI, but can responsibly use it," he said.

Speaking about preparations for the 2027 Kumbh Mela in Nashik, CM said the progress is at a slower pace than anticipated and he described it as an event of "faith and technology".

Fadnavis credited the efficiency of the team working on the event that has been following a reverse planning strategy and assured that despite the delays, progress was being made, drawing from the experience of the successful Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

"People from across the country attended the Kumbh in Prayagraj, and it changed the economy of Uttar Pradesh. The state's GSDP figures next year will be surprising," Fadnavis said, expressing hope for a similar surge of faith and participation at Maharashtra's Kumbh Mela.
