2.89 crore electors left out of draft electoral rolls of Uttar Pradesh
The special intensive revision of the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh has concluded, with a significant number of voters being classified as “uncollectable,” sources said. Around 2.89 crore voters have been removed from the rolls after their names could not be retained during the revision process. Prior to the exercise, the state had approximately 15.44 crore registered voters.
Following the completion of the SIR process, nearly 18.7 per cent of the electorate, amounting to about 2.89 crore voters, could not be included in the final rolls. The impact has been particularly visible in the state capital, Lucknow, where the voter count has dropped by close to 12 lakh.
Officials said that among the voters whose names were deleted, around 1.25 crore had permanently relocated to other places and had themselves informed booth-level officers about the move. Additionally, 45.95 lakh voters were reported deceased, while 23.59 lakh names were identified as duplicate entries.
