The manager and aide of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, Shaganpreet Singh, played a key role in the murder of Youth Akali Dal functionary back in 2021, a local court said.
The court also directed the Mohali SSP to initiate the extradition proceedings against Shaganpreet, who reportedly fled to Australia after the murder, according to a Times of India report.
The additional district and sessions judge Baljinder Singh on Monday awarded life sentence to three sharpshooters - Sajjan Singh alias Bhola, Anil Kumar alias Latth and Ajay Kumar alias Lefty - for Akali leader Vikramjit Singh alias Vicky Middukhera's murder.
The court, while sentencing the shooters, directed the investigating agency to complete the probe in respect to the remaining accused who are at large - Shaganpreet, Ravinder, Lucky Patial, Sombir and Dharminder Singh alian Gugni.
Middukhera's murder plot
According to a report by TOI, it was Shaganpreet who arranged the accommodation for the shooters in Mohali and brought them outside Middukhera's house in Sector 71 to identify his vehicle. He also facilitated communication between one of the shooters, Anil Latth and Lucky Patial, a key figure in the murder conspiracy.
The murder took place on August 7 2021. The Akali Dal leader was shot multiple times by the shooters. They later escaped in a car, which they handed over to another accomplice, Ravinder.
A day after Middukhera's murder, Shaganpreet went to Dubai to arrange Moose Waka's concert and returned four days later. He stayed in Mohali for three days before fleeing to Australia, according to TOI.
