Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and the Supreme Court seized with the batch of petitions, an issue related to administrative error has surfaced related to a woman’s voter ID.

Bihar is set to undergo Assembly polls this year. Ahead of the elections, this became a political issue with the Trinamool Congress attacking the Nitish-Kumar led government of "serious administrative negligence".

Taking a jibe at the Bihar government, the TMC wrote in a post on X, “A shocking and shameful incident has surfaced from Bihar where a woman's voter ID card in Madhepura district features the face of CM Nitish Kumar instead of her photograph.”

"Reports of similar bizarre, erroneous voter IDs are pouring in from across states," the party further wrote.

One Abhilasha Kumari received her revised voter ID card recently and while, the name and other details on the card were correct, the photo on the card was of the Bihar Chief Minister.

The voter ID card has the name of 30-year-old woman Abhilasha Kumari and there is a candid photo of Nitish Kumar.

The woman had approached the concerned authorities to correct the address on her card, which was done, however, after that a new mistake cropped up in which her card had the photo of the CM of Bihar.

The woman from the Madhepura municipal council in Bihar received her revised voter ID card recently. Her name and other details on the card were correct but the photo was of Nitish Kumar.

"I had applied for a correction on my voter ID card, but when I received it through the post office (I saw this mistake)," the woman has been quoted as saying to NDTV.

As per the report, her husband Chandan Kumar accused the agency responsible for the mistake of negligence and said that the photo of the CM of a state appearing on the card of a woman is a big lapse.

He said this reflects negligence on the government's part. "Everything was fine on the card, but the photo was of Nitish Kumar ji,” he said.

The couple also claimed that when they went to the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) regarding this irregularity, they were allegedly asked not to tell this to anyone, NDTV reported.

"It's a serious lapse. Such a mistake reflects the negligence of the agency or employee preparing the voter ID. He has demanded an investigation so that such a mistake does not happen in the future," the woman’s husband further said.

The choice of photo of Nitish Kumar is also curious. Her husband said he was appearing to shield his eyes from the sun. "They have made a joke of the process," he said.

According to reports, a probe has been ordered in the case and the responsible has been BLO given a week's time to provide an explanation.
