Satara, one of Maharashtra's 288 Assembly constituencies, is part of the Satara Lok Sabha seat. In the 2024 Assembly elections, the spotlight is on the contest between Shivendraraje Bhosale of the BJP and Amit Genuji Kadam from Shiv Sena (UBT).
Satara serves as the district and tehsil headquarters, bordered by Koregaon to the west, Karad and Patan to the south, Jawali to the east, and Wai to the north. The city's name is derived from the seven forts (Sat-Tara) surrounding it. According to the 2011 census, Satara had a population of 179,147.
The electoral history of the constituency reflects shifting alliances and outcomes. In 2019, Shivendraraje Bhosale, representing the BJP, secured victory with 118,005 votes, defeating Deepak Sahebrao Pawar of the NCP, who received 74,581 votes. In 2014, Bhosale, then an NCP candidate, won the seat with 97,964 votes, while Pawar, contesting for the BJP, managed 50,151 votes.
This year, the political landscape is marked by a face-off between two major coalitions. The ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP faction, is up against the MVA, which includes Congress, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar's NCP-SP.
Maharashtra will vote in a single phase on November 20, covering all 288 Assembly seats, including Satara. The counting of votes is scheduled for November 23.
