Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur later this month, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) said the situation in the Northeast is showing signs of improvement, with violence and secessionist movements gradually easing.
“It is good that the secessionist movements and the regular violence are all slowly calming down and there is an environment of progress,” said RSS national publicity in-charge Sunil Ambekar on Sunday, pointing to the improving situation across India’s Northeastern states.
Speaking at the conclusion of a three-day coordination meeting of RSS and its affiliated organisations in Jodhpur, Ambekar highlighted that all RSS-inspired groups have now begun working across the Northeast in multiple capacities.
He said long-standing efforts to promote communal harmony, which have been underway for years, are starting to yield tangible results.
Ambekar specifically cited developments in Manipur, where tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities have eased following a special agreement signed between the Union Home Ministry and the Kuki community.
The Churachandpur-based Kuki-Zo Council has also reopened National Highway-02, allowing free movement of commuters and essential services—a move Ambekar described as “very good.”
While acknowledging that restoring full harmony will take time, Ambekar expressed optimism that progress will continue.
He added that broader community initiatives by RSS-affiliated organisations are helping bridge gaps caused by years of unrest, gradually fostering an environment where development and stability can take root across the Northeast.
