At a press briefing following the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) national meet, General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, on Saturday, highlighted the need for Hindu unity to counter divisive forces that exploit religion, caste, and ideology. Echoing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's slogan, "batengey toh katengey" (divided we fall), Hosabale underscored the importance of societal cohesion for national integrity.

Hosabale articulated, "If we discriminate or divide based on language, state, or caste, we will be decimated," highlighting the historical consequences of social fragmentation. He stressed that the focus should be on Hindu unity, which he described as essential for societal strength and resilience. "Those who forget Hindu principles invite disaster and lose their land, families, and places of worship," he added, reiterating the RSS' commitment to fostering unity within society.

During the press conference, Hosabale noted that speeches alone are insufficient to promote unity; practical efforts must be taken to embed this value into daily behaviour. He acknowledged the growing support from various religious and social organisations for the cause of Hindu unity, stating, "Hindu unity is for everyone's good, contributing to global happiness and peace."

He cautioned against the "forces" working to divide Hindus on various lines, asserting the need for vigilance against these elements. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Thane, had also addressed the theme of Hindu unity, stating, "Agar hum batenge, toh bantney waley mehfil sajaayenge" (if we are divided, then those who seek to do so would celebrate).

Regarding the ongoing dispute over the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah in Mathura, Hosabale confirmed that the matter is pending in court, expressing hope for a swift resolution. He advised against any actions akin to those seen in Ayodhya, urging trust in the judiciary.

On the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Hosabale clarified that it is not an issue confined to one party or community. He mentioned that a parliamentary committee is gathering opinions from various religious and social groups regarding the bill. He also referred to previous amendments to the Waqf Act that granted it significant autonomy, suggesting that these changes have led to issues requiring correction.

In addressing concerns about the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Hosabale conveyed that Chief Minister Adityanath aims to make this year's event more impactful and successful than previous iterations. He expressed the need to encourage participation from tribal communities, framing the Kumbh not just as a religious occasion but as a national celebration of cultural unity.

Responding to questions about potential tensions between the RSS and BJP following recent remarks by the BJP national president, Hosabale dismissed claims of conflict, asserting that the RSS maintains positive relationships across the political spectrum.

On the influence of social media and independent platforms on youth, he called for regulatory measures to mitigate negative impacts, while emphasising the importance of fostering good values within families and society. He acknowledged the role of the Sangh in promoting social responsibility and supporting initiatives aimed at rehabilitating individuals affected by issues like religious conversion and "love jihad."

The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of the RSS' Pratinidhi Sabha held in March, marking 99 years of the organisation and planning for centenary celebrations next year. Hosabale outlined initiatives under the concept of "Panch Parivartan," focusing on self-reliance, social harmony, family enlightenment, environmental consciousness, and civic responsibility.

The RSS' outreach efforts continue to grow, with over 72,000 "shakhas" (branches) operational across various locations, reflecting a significant increase in community engagement. Additionally, the organisation has been active in assisting in natural disasters across several states, demonstrating its commitment to social service.
