The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) formally began its special Vijayadashami celebrations at the Reshimbagh grounds in Nagpur on Thursday. Former President Ram Nath Kovind, who arrived in the city on Wednesday, attended the landmark ceremony as the chief guest.

Before the event, Kovind visited Deekshabhoomi, the historic site where Dr. B. R. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism in 1956. During the celebrations, he invoked the words of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar from their visits to RSS shakhas.

"There is a need to dispel ill-founded misconceptions about the Sangh," Kovind said. He described the organisation as "a sacred, sprawling banyan tree that unites the people of Bharat, instilling pride while rejuvenating the nation's glory and progress."

Later, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat delivered his address, touching upon issues ranging from U.S. tariffs under Donald Trump to political upheavals in India's neighbourhood.
