Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday claimed that the NDA will get more than 160 seats in Bihar.
The first phase of election on Thursday saw a record 64.66 per cent voter turnout. Voting in the second phase will take place on November 11, with results on November 14.
Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi, Singh said, "Public response makes us believe we will form a government, and we could get two-thirds majority. Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Minister, and the election is being contested under his leadership," he said.
When asked if women leading the queues in the first phase of Bihar election is an indication of the poll outcome, Singh said they feel the law-and-order situation has always been better during the Nitish regime than during the Congress-RJD rule.
The minister also termed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s "Chhath Maiya" and 'PM will dance' jibe at Narendra Modi 'inappropriate'. “The PM has never misled the public. He has always won their support by presenting facts,” said Singh.
Speaking about strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor’s entry into Bihar’s political sphere, Singh said Jan Suraaj will not even get a single seat.
"Prashant Kishor is an insignificant factor, and there is no need to dwell on that. People know who is fighting to cut votes, and who is standing to form the government. Kishor’s party may not win even one seat," he said.
Singh also said RJD leader Tejashwi’s promise of giving one government to each family “not feasible”. “We also spoke about providing jobs but not government ones. We want to empower people so that they can earn their livelihood. We don’t want to mislead people by false promises,” he said.
He also said the party will pick its national president after the Bihar polls.
Singh also cleared the air about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's role in picking BJP president. "The RSS never interferes in the BJP's political work. I have been associated with the RSS since childhood. Patriotism is inculcated by the Sangh," the Union Minister said.
