Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will launch a ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ on Sunday to protest what the party calls an “assault” on people’s right to vote during the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, senior party leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh announced on Saturday.
The yatra, beginning from Sasaram, will continue for over two weeks and conclude with a grand rally in Patna on September 1, Singh said.
Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is expected to stay in Bihar for nearly 15 days as part of the campaign.
According to Singh, the march will cover 25 districts across the state, with three scheduled breaks on August 20, 25 and 31. The initiative, he added, aims to build momentum in favour of the INDIA bloc ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
“Rahul Gandhi will be joined by Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, along with leaders from our alliance partners, including the Left parties, during the yatra. For the concluding rally in Patna, we will try to bring together leaders of as many like-minded parties as possible,” Singh said.
