While the three Indian Armed Forces were fighting Pakistan on various fronts, there was another force that stood tall and managed to undertake critical operations with utmost efficiency and resolve, taking on and battling the attacks that came India's way.
Country's Border Security Foce (BSF) worked day and night to ensure that all of Pakistan's attacks were deflated and that India stood strong in the fight between the two nations. Not only Jammu and Kashmir, the BSF managed to guard Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat as well even after no additional deployment came their way.
The BSF showed massive resilience on the night of May 8 when, around 11 pm, a group of heavily armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate Indian territory via the Samba sector of J&K. They were supported by direct fire from the Pakistan Rangers’ Dhandhar post, News18 reported. The BSF quickly sprung into action and neutralised seven terrorists even before they reached the border.
BSF then targeted enemy assets and destroyed them, including BMG bunker in Dhandhar.
An official told News18 that while Jammu and Kashmir remained the prime focus for the BSF, they did not ignore Gujarat or Rajasthan when needed and gave a befitting reply to Pakistan.
"Since there was a chance that Pakistan could infiltrate if we switched off floodlights, we kept them on and stood firm even during the attack to ensure no one crossed over," the official told News18 on the condition of anonymity. “While Pakistan expected low visibility due to aerial fire, we struck hard—damaging their surveillance infrastructure and other key systems," said the official, as quoted by News18.
The BSF was also praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), who called BSF an equal participant in India's response to Pakistan.
"I salute every individual of the Air Force, Navy, Army, and BSF. Their courage is the armour of our sovereignty," PM Modi said.
"BSF was an equal participant in our response. From their DG to their Prahari at the BOP—they stood shoulder to shoulder with us," Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said in a joint briefing of the DGMO, related to Operation Sindoor.
