Prime minister Narendra Modi spoke about lifestyle disorders and called edible oil a key factor for rising obesity and urged for reduced oil intake in all households.

Speaking at the opening ceremony address at the 38th National Games on January 28, he said, “In our homes, ration comes at the beginning of the month. Till now, if you used to bring home two litres of cooking oil every month, then reduce it by at least 10%. Reduce the amount of oil we use every day by 10%."

PM Modi further spoke how all age groups of the country are affected by cooking oil as it is an important factor behind rising obesity. "Every age group of the country, and even the youth, are being badly affected by it. And this is also a matter of concern because obesity increases the risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease," the PM said.

Alongwith discouraging consumption of cooking oil, PM also advised to work out daily and emphasized on the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet.
