PM Modi's firm message to oppn ahead of winter session: 'Parliament no battleground for frustration of defeat'

The Winter Session should not turn into a battleground for the frustration of defeat, nor should it become an expression of arrogance over victory. We should maintain a balance, says PM Modi.

Ahead of the Parliament winter session on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said tore into the Opposition saying  it should fulfil its responsibility and come out of its depression after loss in elections.

"The Winter Session should not turn into a battleground for the frustration of defeat, nor should it become an expression of arrogance over victory. We should maintain a balance," the PM said at press briefing.

According to PM Modi, negativity may be useful in politics but there should be some positive thinking for nation-building. "I expect you to keep negativity within limits and focus on nation-building. This winter session is also important for another reason. Our new Chairman will give guidance to our Upper House. I wish him all the best. GST reforms have created an atmosphere of reverence among the countrymen. A lot of work will be done in that direction in this session as well..." he said.

Calling the session more than a ritual, the Prime Minister said it must “serve the nation, not the frustration of defeat”, and help drive India’s development forward.

“All the anger is expressed inside the House. Some parties have created the Parliament to serve the politics of their respective states. The game they have been playing for the last ten years is not being accepted by the country,” added PM hitting out at Opposition.

The PM alleged that some parties have started a new trend of using the House for their state politics. "Now, they should reconsider the game they have been playing for the last 10 years, which the country is not accepting. They should at least change their methods and their strategies. I am ready to give them tips on how they should perform, but at least do not ignore the rights of MPs; give them the opportunity to express themselves..."he said.

PM Modi also said the record voter turnout in the recent elections in Bihar is the greatest strength of democracy. "The increasing participation of mothers and sisters is, in itself, creating new hope and new confidence. On one hand, the strengthening of democracy, and now within this democratic system, the strengthening of the economy is also being closely watched by the world. India has proven that democracy can deliver results," he said.
