PM Modi flags off Dwarka Expressway, UER-II in Delhi; projects worth Rs 11,000 cr

As per the PMO, these projects are part of a broader strategy to reduce congestion in Delhi and improve connectivity, reflecting PM Modi’s vision of world-class infrastructure and seamless mobility.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, dedicated two major highway projects in Delhi, the Dwarka Expressway (Delhi section) and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), worth around Rs 11,000 crore.

Before the inauguration, PM Modi conducted a roadshow, with supporters lining the streets and chanting “Modi-Modi.”

PM Modi said, "The name of this expressway is Dwarka, while the event is taking place in Rohini. I too come from the land of Dwarkadheesh… the entire atmosphere has become very Krishnamay."

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, “This month of August is coloured in the colours of freedom and revolution. Amid this festival of freedom, Delhi is witnessing a development revolution. Today, the city has been connected via the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road, enhancing convenience for the entire Delhi NCR and Gurugram".


"On 15th August, from the Red Fort, I spoke confidently about India’s economy, self-reliance, and self-confidence. When the world looks at India, it first sees Delhi. We must make it a model capital that reflects a developing India," also stated the Prime Minister.

He added, “This highway will now save everyone’s time. Over the past 11 years, commuting in Delhi NCR has become much easier.”

On the environmental benefits of UER-II, PM Modi noted, “The Urban Extension Road is helping Delhi reduce the mountains of garbage. Lakhs of tons of waste have been scientifically used to build this road. Bhalswa landfill is nearby, and this initiative eases many problems faced by local residents.”

Highlighting urban development efforts, the Prime Minister said, “Under the leadership of Rekha Gupta ji, the Delhi BJP government has been actively cleaning the Yamuna. About 16 lakh metric tons of silt have been removed. In addition, 650 DEVI electric buses have been introduced in Delhi, soon to exceed 2,000, strengthening the Green Delhi-Clean Delhi initiative."

He further noted, "After many years, the BJP government is back in Delhi, tasked with overcoming the challenges left by previous administrations. I am confident that the team will resolve longstanding issues and drive visible progress.”

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, also presented at the event, said, “These highways will provide significant relief from traffic congestion. Traffic jams in Delhi could be reduced by nearly 50% due to these projects. The Prime Minister’s roadmap also aims to cut logistics costs, which currently range from 14-16 percent. By 2026, we aim to bring it down to single digits, benefiting exports significantly.”

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini felicitated the Prime Minister, who also interacted with construction workers involved in the projects.

Project Details:

Dwarka Expressway (Delhi section): 10.1 km long, costing Rs 5,360 crore, connecting Shiv Murti intersection to the Delhi-Haryana border via the RUB at Dwarka Sector-21. Offers multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, DMRC Blue and Orange lines, Bijwasan railway station, and Dwarka bus depot.

Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II): Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch, including new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, built at Rs 5,580 crore. Designed to ease traffic on Inner and Outer Ring Roads, reduce congestion at key junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-9, and enhance industrial and goods movement in the NCR.

As per the Prime Minister’s Office, these projects are part of a broader strategy to reduce congestion in Delhi and improve connectivity, reflecting PM Modi’s vision of world-class infrastructure and seamless mobility.
