Patel Nagar Assembly Constituency: Past winners, margin, party-wise candidates and demographics

Patel Nagar is a general Assembly constituency in Delhi, where the key political contenders include the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress.

Patel Nagar, once a refugee colony, is one of the 70 assembly constituencies in New Delhi. It is a part of the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency and falls under the West Delhi district, which is divided into three subdivisions. Patel Nagar, which was a reserved seat for Schedule Caste till 2008, is now a general category assembly seat.

The demographics of Patel Nagar

As per the Election Commission, the Scheduled castes (SC) in Patel Nagar are about 21.66% of the total population. As per the voter list of 2020, there are 198185 electorates and 189 polling stations in this constituency. Voter turnout was 58.74% in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, whereas it was 61% in 2020 assembly election.

Patel Nagar Constituency 2015 and 2020 Winners

In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the Kejriwal led party candidate Raaj Kumar Anand won the seat with 73,463 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pravesh Ratan secured 42,528 votes, while the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Krishna Tirath received 3,382 votes.

In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP's Hazari Lal Chauhan emerged victorious with 68,868 votes. BJP's Krishna Tirath garnered 34,230 votes, and Congress candidate Rajesh Lilothia obtained 10,766 votes.

Candidates for 2025 assembly elections

Raaj Kumar Anand, who earlier won on the AAP’s ticket, has now shifted loyalties and he is now contesting on BJP’s ticket. The Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Pravesh Ratn against Anand, while the Congress has given its ticket to Krishna Tirath.

The Patel Nagar constituency in Delhi went to polls on February 5. The results will be declared on February 8, along with the other 69 constituencies in Delhi.
