In a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party, Bhartiya Janata Party's candidate Parvesh Verma has won the New Delhi seat on February 8 by defeating former Delhi chief minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
Verma, a two-time MP from West Delhi has defeated Kejriwal with a margin of over 3000 votes.

Who is Parvesh Verma?
Born in 1977, Verma hails from a prominent political family from Delhi. He is the son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma. His uncle Azad Singh served as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor and contested from Mundka constituency from BJP during the 2013 assembly polls.
Verma completed his schooling from Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram and Kirori Mal College. He received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Fore School of Management.
Verma is married to Swati Singh, the daughter of former Union Minister and BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, Vikram Verma.

Verma's political career
Verma was the member of the Delhi BJP Election Committee for the 2013 assembly elections.
He later in the same year received political prominence when he won the Delhi Legislative Assembly representing the Mehrauli constituency. He defeated runner-up AAP's Narinder Singh Sejwal by 4,564 votes, and the incumbent MLA and Speaker of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Yoganand Shastri.
In the 2014 general election, Verma won from the West Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency by a record margin of 2,68,586 votes.
He secured a second second term as MP in West Delhi Constituency with a record-breaking margin of 5.78 lakh votes, beating Congress's Mahabal Mishra.
In the 2019 general elections, Verma secured 8,65,648 of the total 14,41,601 votes polled in the seat, the highest recorded margin in the history of Delhi that any Lok Sabha candidate had ever won.
Verma's net worth
The BJP leader, has declared movable assets worth Rs 77.89 crore and immovable assets valued at Rs 12.19 crore. His wife owns movable assets worth Rs 17.53 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 6.91 crore.
Verma has shown a cash balance of Rs 2.2 lakh. He owns three cars -- a Toyota Fortuner (Rs 9 lakh), a Toyota Innova (Rs 36 lakh) and an XUV (Rs 11.77 lakh).
