Independent MP Pappu Yadav has written to the Centre seeking an upgrade of his security from 'Y' to 'Z' category citing death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
In his email to the home ministry, the six-time MP shared a purported clip of the threat call he received from the gang.
In the clip, the caller can be heard telling Yadav’s personal assistant that the Purnia MP should "think before he speaks", referring to his recent statement on the gang.
Yadav, whose real name is Rajesh ranjan, had openly challenged Bishnoi and said that if allowed, he would dismantle the entire gang within 24 hours.
"If the law permits, I will dismantle the entire network of a cheap criminal like Lawrence Bishnoi within 24 hours," Yadav had said after the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the murder of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui.
Police sources told The Times of India that the caller told Yadav to maintain his distance from the Salman Khan case. He then threatened to kill him.
The caller warned Yadav that he has conducted reconnaissance on his various locations.
He added that Bishnoi was trying to get in touch with Yadav personally by jamming the phone signals of the Sabarmati Jail. He said that Bishnoi was paying Rs 1 lakh per hour for this, TOI reported.
The call was traced to a number from UAE, the report said.
In his letter, Yadav sought stringest security arrangements for all his political events, including police escort. “If this is not done, I may be murdered anytime,” he said in his letter.
