'One who wears Rs 10 lakh suit...': Kejriwal's fresh salvo at PM Modi over 'sheeshmahal' jibe

Taking a swipe at Kejriwal, PM Modi said he could also have built a "sheeshmahal" for himself but his dream was to ensure homes for everyone in the country.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "sheeshmahal" remark and said that "one who wears Rs 10 lakh suit, talking about 'sheeshmahal' doesn't suit his (PM Modi) mouth".

Taking a swipe at Kejriwal earlier today, PM Modi said he could also have built a "sheeshmahal" for himself but his dream was to ensure homes for everyone in the country.

Responding to his remark, Kejriwal addressed a presser today and said, "One who builds a house worth Rs 2,700 crore for himself, who travels in airplane worth Rs 8,400 crore, one who wears Rs 10 lakh suit, talking about 'sheesh mahal' doesn't suit his mouth... I don't want to indulge in personal accusations, I don't do politics of abuses..."

"In 2020, PM made a few promises to the people of Delhi. The 2020 'Sankalp Patra' clearly stated that everyone in Delhi will get pucca house by 2022. He (PM Modi) said that till 2022, everyone in Delhi will get a house... Today in 2025, PM Modi has handed over the keys to 1700 homes and he gave keys to 3000 houses in Kalka Ji some time ago. In total, he has given keys to 4700 houses in 5 years. In Delhi, there are 4 lakh slums and 15 lakh people need homes. Looks like their manifesto was for 200 years instead of 5 years," Kejriwal added.

Saying that PM Modi "abused" the people of Delhi, Kejriwal said, "Today, PM Modi gave a speech of 43 minutes, in which he abused people of Delhi and the govt chosen by them for around 39 minutes. In 2015, people of Delhi chose two governments for Delhi - BJP-led central govt and AAP-led Delhi govt. It has been 10 years now. If you ask me to tell what all works the AAP govt in Delhi has done in these 10 years, maybe even 2-3 hours will not be sufficient...".

PM Modi's 'AAPda' attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday kickstarted the BJP's campaign ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.  He launched a scathing attack at Arvind Kejriwal while addressing a public meeting in the national capital.

“The country knows it well that Modi never built a home for himself but has built more than 4 crore houses for the poor,” the Prime Minister said. Further, taking a dig at Kejriwal, he stated, “Mai bhi koi ‘sheeshmahal’ bana sakta tha. Lekin mere liye toh mere desh wasiyon ko pucca ghar mile, yahi ek sapna tha (I could have also built a sheeshmahal, but for me, it was a dream that my countrymen should get permanent houses).”

Further, calling AAP as 'AAPda' (disaster), PM Modi said voters of national capital have made up their minds to free themselves from the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in the upcoming polls. "Voters of Delhi have made up their minds to free Delhi from this 'aapda'. Every voter of Delhi is saying, 'aapda ko nahi sahenge, badal ke rahenge'," the Prime Minister stated.

The BJP has been targeting Kejriwal for allegedly spending a huge amount of money on his official residence when he was chief minister, and described his erstwhile home as "sheeshmahal".
