NSG to Establish New Hubs in Ayodhya, Pathankot, Kerala

The National Security Guards (NSG) will soon create units in Ayodhya, Pathankot and Kerala, according to a senior official.

The Ayodhya unit is expected to become operational within the next few months, while the Pathankot and Kerala units will be set up by the end of this year, Hindustan Times reported.

Moneycontrol could not verify this report independently. 

In preparation, NSG officials, along with a team of commandos, will begin a four-day visit to Ayodhya on Wednesday. Their mission is to initiate the process of setting up an NSG hub in the town and to review the security of the newly built Ram temple, senior district administration and police officials of Ayodhya announced on Tuesday.

During their visit, the NSG team is expected to conduct mock drills with local police and other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) units to enhance capacity building and reduce response time in case of any adverse situation. The NSG hub in Ayodhya will be the first response centre for this elite security agency in Uttar Pradesh.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ayodhya range, Praveen Kumar, confirmed the NSG team’s visit to assess threat perception and review the existing security system for the Ram temple. Meetings with the local authorities and representatives from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and UP Special Security Force (UPSSF) are also planned to develop a comprehensive security plan.

An Ayodhya district administrative official stated that the NSG authorities have applied for land allotment from the district magistrate's office. The NSG unit in Ayodhya will be equipped with specialised weapons and anti-drone measures. With the addition of these new hubs, the NSG will have a total of eight centres across the country, including those in Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Gandhinagar.
