National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and China’s Foreign Minister, in Beijing on Monday on the sidelines of the 20th Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Doval is in China to attend the SCO meeting of Security Council Secretaries.

During their bilateral meeting, both sides reviewed recent developments in India-China relations and stressed the importance of promoting overall ties, including enhanced people-to-people exchanges, the MEA said.

Doval underlined the need to combat terrorism in all its forms to ensure regional peace and stability. The two leaders also exchanged views on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

“NSA noted that he looked forward to meeting with Wang Yi in India at a mutually convenient date for the 24th round of the Special Representative (SR) Talks,” the MEA added.

Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal said India remains engaged with China both diplomatically and commercially to ensure a steady supply of rare earth minerals, which are crucial for several industries.

He said the government is also coordinating with industry bodies such as SIAM and ACMA to assess the impact on the automobile sector and facilitate dialogue with Chinese counterparts.

“We’re engaged with SIAM and ACMA, facilitating them to have discussions with Chinese counterparts,” Barthwal said, according to ANI.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also said last week that India is in touch with the Chinese side “both here in Delhi and in Beijing” to bring greater predictability to trade supply chains, in line with international norms.
