During the Lok Sabha debate on electoral reforms, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the BJP, alleging serious irregularities in the Haryana elections and accusing the Election Commission of failing to protect the integrity of India’s democracy.
Gandhi said India is not just the world’s largest democracy but “the greatest democracy” and argued that safeguarding the vote was central to its identity. “Vote chori is an anti-national act,” he declared, claiming the Haryana polls were “stolen”.
He again cited what he called repeated entries of a “Brazilian woman” in the state’s voter rolls. “We have a Brazilian woman who appears 22 times in the Haryana voter list,” he said, insisting the Election Commission “has no answer to these questions”.
Gandhi also questioned changes to laws governing election commissioners and CCTV rules, alleging they undermined accountability.
