'Nitish Kumar will become chief minister if NDA wins in Bihar': Chirag Paswan

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Hajipur MP Chirag Paswan on Thursday said that if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) wins the Bihar Assembly elections, Nitish Kumar will become the chief minister.

In an exclusive interview with CNN-News18, Chirag Paswan said, "Let me say this on behalf of my alliance, if NDA wins the Bihar elections, Nitish Kumar will be the chief minister."

On being asked that if the NDA wins in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, is he looking at a deputy chief minister's post, Paswan said, "I come from a family where I have seen it all. Having a post doesn't lure me. If that would have been my priority, in 2020 I wouldn't have left the alliance."

"The alliance should perform well and we should achieve our targets. Definitely as per the strength of the party everyone will be given their respective role."

He added, "I am not personally aiming for any post in the state government. Although, if a situation like this comes and if the choice arises, that would be one of the deserving men from my party."

Last month, Chirag Paswan announced at a rally in Ara in Bhojpur district that he will fight the assembly polls in Bihar.

"I will contest the assembly polls in Bihar. I will contest not just in Bihar but for Bihar and its people. I am the son of Ramvilas Paswan. I will realise the dreams of my father and work for ’Bihar first, Bihari first’ to change Bihar,” recalling an old slogan he had coined ahead of the previous assembly polls in 2020.

The 42-year-old Hajpur MP said, ”It is for the people of Bihar to decide from which seat in the state I should contest in the upcoming assembly elections. Whenever I take a political decision, I take it for the sake of the state and its people.”
