The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured victory in all five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar. The winning candidates include Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Ram from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Nitish Kumar and Ramnath Thakur from the Janata Dal (United), and Upendra Kushwaha from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha.

All the winning candidates secured the required number of votes to ensure their election to the Rajya Sabha. However, the formal announcement of the results is still awaited. In this election, the Mahagathbandhan failed to secure a single seat. Amarendra Dhari Singh, the candidate of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, lost the election.

BJP candidates Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar, along with BJP-backed Independent Dilip Ray, emerged victorious in Odisha. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated Samal and Kumar in the Assembly chamber. BJD candidate Santrupt Misra also secured a win, claiming the remaining Rajya Sabha seat from the state.

The term of 37 members who were elected from Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana will conclude in the month of April, vacating the seats for new members to be elected.

Out of these, 26 candidates had already secured victory unopposed. Voting will now take place for the remaining 11 seats, including five from Bihar, four from Odisha, and two from Haryana. Among the prominent candidates, Bihar’s longest-serving Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP president Nitin Nabin are expected to be elected to the Rajya Sabha in the biennial polls.

Odisha Minister Sampad Chandra Swain on Monday responded to BJD leader and LoP Naveen Patnaik’s allegations of cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections, saying the practice is allowed under election rules.

He explained that if a member faces an issue while casting their vote, the Presiding Officer has the authority to verify and issue a new ballot, and such actions are not illegal.
