Mumbai police have heightened security across crowded areas following intelligence from central agencies about a potential terror threat. Security measures have been intensified at religious sites and busy public spaces throughout the city. According to police sources, officers have been instructed to conduct mock drills in these areas as a precautionary step.
Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been tasked with closely monitoring security in their respective zones, while temples have been specifically advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. On Friday, a mock drill was carried out at the bustling Crawford Market, home to two popular religious sites, as part of these preventive measures.
Officials clarified that this increased security is part of routine preparations for the upcoming festive season, with Mumbai gearing up for major celebrations like Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali. Additionally, the city is bracing for the upcoming Maharashtra state assembly elections, which are expected to take place in November.
With a busy festive season ahead and political events looming, Mumbai police have ramped up efforts to ensure public safety, especially in areas with high footfall.
