The Mahim Assembly is part of Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha constituency and a Shiv Sena bastion. This time, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's son Amit is making his political debut by contesting from Mahim assembly seat.

Mahim Assembly Constituency demographics

There were 25,19,586 voters in the Mahim constituency during the 2019 Assembly Elections. Out of this, 13,55,982 were male and 11,63,374 were female voters. 230 voters belonged to the third gender, as per reports citing Election Commission data.

MNS candidate Amit Thackeray is pitted against Shiv Sena’s Sada Sarvankar. The third candidate is Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Mahesh Sawant. Sarvankar won in 2014 and 2019 assembly elections.

Mahim Assembly Election Results

Shiv Sena's Sada Sarvankar won against MNS candidates in 2014 and 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections.

In the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, Sarvankar defeated MNS candidate Nitin Sardesai with a vote share of 33.97 percent. Sardesai got 40,350 votes.  Sardesai had won in 2009 assembly polls.

Again, in 2019, Sarvankar won this seat with 61,337 votes and a vote share of 49.45 percent. He defeated MNS candidate Sandeep Deshpande, who got 42,690 votes (34.42 percent).

Mahim is one of the few seats where MNS may play a key role in the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024. MNS’s Nitin Sardesai won the seat in 2009.

MNS is backing the ruling Mahayuti consisting of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, BJP and Ajit Pawar-led NCP. BJP leaders have extended support to Amit Thackeray whereas Mahayuti  has not formally announced any support for him.

During the Lok Sabha polls, Raj Thackeray announced his party’s unconditional support for the BJP "to make Modi PM again."

Of the 288 assembly constituencies in the state, MNS had won one seat each in the 2014 and 2019 elections.

Mahim Assembly Constituency Election Date 2024

Polls in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase for all 288 seats. Mahim assembly constituency will vote on November 20. Counting of votes will be held on November 23.
