The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 commenced on Monday at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, marking the start of one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. The sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers witnessed a large influx of devotees performing the holy ritual of ‘Shahi Snan’ on the auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima. The event began with devotees taking a holy dip at 3:20 am, a ritual believed to cleanse the soul and grant spiritual salvation.
Unlike the regular Kumbh Mela, which rotates every three years across Haridwar, Ujjain, Nashik, and Prayagraj, the Maha Kumbh is unique to Prayagraj and occurs once every 12 years. This exclusivity is linked to specific planetary alignments, lending profound spiritual significance to the event. The 45-day festival will continue until February 26, drawing saints, sages, and visitors from across the globe.
