In a significant development for India's energy needs, LPG tanker Shivalik has safely reached India. The vessel is docked at Gujarat's Mundra port. Additionally two tankers -- Jag Laadki and Nanda devi is expected to reach tomorrow.
LPG tanker Shivalik gained attention after navigating the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most sensitive maritime corridors.
The massive liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker had crossed the volatile Strait of Hormuz, carrying more than 40,000 tonnes of cooking gas. Its journey, under the watch of the Indian Navy and after diplomatic engagement with Iran, has highlighted how crucial such vessels are to India’s everyday energy supply.
Earlier today, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, issuing an update on the status of Indian vessels amid tensions in the Middle East and Iran’s blockage at the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Ministry, maritime operations related to Indian cargo vessels remain stable and there has been no delay in the discharge of cargo so far. Authorities also confirmed that no incidents have been reported in the last 24 hours, and all seafarers are safe.
ndia-flagged crude oil tanker Jag Laadki, which was loading oil at the UAE’s Fujairah port on Saturday when the oil terminal there came under attack, safely set sail for India from the port on Sunday morning, the government said Sunday.
Jag Laadki is carrying around 80,800 tonnes of Murban crude — a crude grade produced by the UAE — and the tanker as well as all Indian seafarers on board are safe. According to ship databases, Jag Laadki was built in 2010 and is currently owned and operated by Mumbai-based Great Eastern Shipping Company.
Roughly 20 per cent of global oil and gas shipments pass through this narrow channel linking the Persian Gulf to international waters. Any disruption in the region quickly raises alarms in global energy markets.
In the midst of heightened tensions in the Gulf, the safe passage of Shivalik became a symbol of India’s efforts to protect its energy lifelines.
