The Demographics of Kirari
According to the 2012 census, Kirari has a population of approximately 154,633. The demographic distribution indicates that 55% of the population are males and 45% are females. The average literacy rate in Kirari stands at 49%, with male literacy at 51% and female literacy at 38%. The population in this area is diverse, with 31% Brahmins, 32% Scheduled Castes, 20% Muslims, and 7% backward classes, along with a significant presence of Jat voters.
Kirari Constituency 2020 and 2015 Winners
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Rituraj Govind from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the seat by securing 86,312 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Anil Jha, received 80,658 votes, while independent candidate Kaushal Mishra garnered 1,830 votes.
In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Rituraj Govind from AAP emerged victorious with 97,727 votes. Anil Jha from BJP received 52,555 votes, and Pratyush Kanth from the Congress party obtained 2,086 votes.
Candidates for 2025 assembly elections
For the 2025 assembly elections, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has fielded Anil Jha, the former BJP leader who had represented Kirari as an MLA twice in the past. Jha recently joined the AAP in the presence of the party's national convenor, Kejriwal. The BJP has nominated Bajrang Shukla to contest the seat, while Congress has chosen Rajesh Gupta as their candidate.
