A day after the horrific terror attack that killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, India took five key decisions in its response to Pakistan on Wednesday. Shortly after PM Narendra Modi-led CCS concluded its meeting, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced New Delhi's decisions. These five measures are -

  • Indus Waters Treaty suspended or as MEA said "held in abeyance";
  • Visas to Pak nationals suspended
  • Attari-Wagah border closed with immediate effect
  • All Pak nationals told to leave India in next 48 hours
  • India to reduce its mission strength in Pakistan to 30

As India launched its diplomatic strike, security forces commenced massive counter-operations in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the India Today report, a top commander of The Resistance Front has been cornered in Kulgam. TRF is the terror group that claimed the responsibility for the April 22 attack.

After the meeting that lasted for over two hours, PM Modi took to X and posted a brief message.

Amid widespread condemnation, reports say that the agencies have detected ‘digital footprints’ from Pakistan exposing Islamabad’s role in the attack. With the chorus growing louder for a decisive response to the deadliest terror attack on Indian soil since 2008, here are the top developments on Pahalgam carnage:

  • The security forces have cornered a top terrorist from TRF in Kulgam, India Today report says.
  • Multiple media reports say that the encounter is underway in Tangmarg area of South Kashmir.
  • This is not an isolated gunfight. Earlier in the day, forces thwarted an attempt by the terrorists to infiltrate into the Indian side. Two terrorists were gunned down in Baramulla, the report added.
  • A News18 report says that over 1,000 ground workers with alleged terror records have been detained by the security forces.
  • Another report says that two terror associates have been held up in Bandipora.
  • The US has issued travel advisory for its in the wake of the Pahalgam attack.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for an all-party meeting tomorrow. There are also reports that the Centre will also convene an all-party meet in New Delhi tomorrow.
