Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps, formally inaugurated the facility on Thursday. A defence spokesperson described the hub as a significant step toward strengthening high-altitude operational readiness.
The initiative is designed to address the unique logistics and maintenance challenges posed by operating modern NGVs in high-altitude regions, which can remain inaccessible for up to six months during winter due to extreme terrain and weather conditions.
The Leh facility features a centralised, integrated logistics and equipment sustenance system to enhance turnaround times, ensure better spare availability, and support long-term operational sustainability, the spokesperson said.
"This effort is anchored by a 'mother hub' in Leh, strategically located at the intersection of multiple operational axes with strong air connectivity," the spokesperson added. The hub will serve as the primary centre for major repairs, diagnostics, and large-scale storage of critical spares.
Six defence industry partners-Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd, Polaris, Bharat Forge Ltd, JSW Gecko Motors Pvt Ltd, and JCBL Group-will have representatives on site to provide immediate technical support, faster issue resolution, and streamlined warranty services.
