India and the US are trying to set up an early date for the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump, the ministry of external affairs said during a press briefing on January 31.

“Prime Minister Modi and President Trump had telephonic conversation some days back. Recently, the two sides are working on an early visit of the Prime Minister to the United States to further deepen India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic partnership and specific dates for this visit are still being worked out and will be announced at the appropriate time," said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

On January 28, Trump had said that PM Modi would probably be visiting the White House for a meeting with him in February.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on his way back to Joint Base Andrews from Florida.

“I had a long talk with him this morning (Monday). He is going to be coming to the White House, over next month, probably February. We have a very good relationship with India,” Trump told reporters.
