In a step that will provide more power to defence forces and especially to the Navy, India is all set to soon test fire a new long-range anti-ship ballistic missile that would be able to hit enemy warships or aircraft carriers at distances of over 1,000 kilometers.
According to a report published in ANI, the new missile is likely to be tested in the coming few days by the Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO). The sources told ANI that the new missile can be launched from both warships and also from shore-based locations.
The missile system is being developed for the India Navy and would give it the capability to take out enemy vessels from a long-range, the sources said to ANI.
Indian forces have been increasing the number of ballistic missiles in their inventory with Pralay ballistic missiles being ordered by both the Indian Army and Indian
Air Force, according to ANI.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Navy on 4 November successfully test-fired an indigenously developed ballistic missile having a range of 350 km from a warship.
"The missile system with a range of 350 km is capable of hitting land and sea targets with high precision,” according to the Pakistan Navy. The system is equipped with an advanced navigation system with features to change its direction and speed.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, senior officers of the Pakistan Navy, scientists and engineers witnessed the demonstration of test-firing of the missile.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Services Chiefs congratulated the participating navy units and scientists on the missile test.
