• A notification issued by the state finance department cited the "current situation" as the reason behind the decision.
• The order applies to all categories of state government employees, and even those who had been sanctioned leave earlier will now have to report back to duty. Only employees on medical leave will be exempt from the directive, the notification clarified. - PTI

Islamabad’s kamikaze drones and loitering munitions sought to knock out Indian radar installations and military sites to pave the way for further strikes. India’s integrated air-defence network intercepted and destroyed the incoming drones, then countered with precision fire against Pakistan’s HQ-9 air-defence missile launcher in Lahore.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi says, "During the press briefing on operation Sindoor on 07 May 2025, India had called its response as focused, measured and non-escalatory. It was specifically mentioned that Pakistani military establishments had not been targeted. It was also reiterated that any attack on military targets in India will invite a suitable response. On the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be relocated to Karachi.

The British Council has cancelled all board examinations scheduled for today in Lahore. In an official statement, the Council said, "The decision to cancel the examinations was made with candidate safety as the primary concern." This marks a reversal from their earlier stance, as just yesterday the British Council Pakistan had announced that all exams would continue as planned despite rising military tensions between Pakistan and India.

In light of the current situation in the country, two flights from Bhubaneswar airport have been temporarily cancelled. These include the flight to Hindon, Ghaziabad, and another flight to Chandigarh via Patna.

Defence sources have confirmed that the Indian Air Force deployed its S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile systems last night to engage targets approaching Indian airspace. The incoming threats were successfully neutralised during the operation.

Gunfire was reported on Lahore’s Walton Road near DHA Chowk, prompting police and law enforcement agencies to rush to the scene, according to a Dawn reporter. He also mentioned that a drone had landed in the area earlier in the day. In a press conference, ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that the drone was of Indian origin and had landed near Lahore.

As per latest update from Dawn, Pakistan Railways has announced the cancellation of the 15 Up and 16 Down Karachi Express, which operates between Karachi and Lahore, for today. Affected passengers are being accommodated on the 33 Up and 34 Down Pak Business Express. All travelers have been advised to promptly visit the nearest reservation office—either Karachi Cantt or Lahore Station—for booking assistance and further information.

An AFP report says that three major airports in Pakistan have been shut till 6 pm today. These airports are Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore. However, Pakistan daily Dawn citing Pakistan aviation officials said that all airports including Sialkot are operating normally.

Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of PM Modi’s absence from the all-party meeting today on Operation Sindoor. PM Modi was not present in the last all-party meeting called by the Centre days after the Pahalgam terror attack.

French Foreign Minister expressed understanding about India's desire to protect itself from terrorism. In an official statement, French Foreign Office France condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April and expressed its full solidarity with India. It said France supports India in its fight against terrorist groups.

Holiday declared in schools in border districts of Rajasthan until further notice in aftermath of Operation Sindoor

In the wake of missile strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir conducted by India, all government and private schools in the border districts of Rajasthan including Barmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar and Jaisalmer have declared a holiday until further notification.

Fire trucks have been called in Uri to assuage fire risk in the area due to Pakistan breaking the ceasefire to resort to artillery shelling at civilian areas after the Indian Army's Operation Sindoor.

Amid soaring tension between India and Pakistan, all schools in six border districts of Punjab remained shut on Thursday, officials said. The schools were closed in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts, they told PTI.

Many people residing near Indo-Pak border in Jammu have moved to safer places in wake of rising tension between India and Pakistan. The residents living in Pargwal sector of Akhnoor too have vacated homes after advised by civil and defense officials to move to safer places .

According to Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority, Lahore and Sialkot airports will not be available till 12 noon on Thursday.

The central government has convened an all-party meeting at 11 am today to brief key political leaders about Operation Sindoor.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Wednesday that the meeting will take place at 11 am on May 8, 2025, at Committee Room G-074, Parliament Library Building, in the Parliament Complex, New Delhi.

The US embassy in India on May 8 issued an advisory asking its citizens to avoid travelling to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The advisory comes in the wake of rising tensions between India and Pakistan after New Delhi targeted terror hubs inside Pakistan's territory under Operation Sindoor.

A blast was heard in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore on Thursday morning, according to broadcaster Geo TV and a Reuters witness, a day after Indian strikes at multiple locations in the country strengthened fears about an escalation of military conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

In the wee hours of Wednesday, Indian armed forces launched a deadly assault on terror installations located in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir, inflicting significant damages to key bases of terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

A key feature of India's retaliatory action, that came in the aftermath of the killing of 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, was the precision with which it struck pre-identified targets while ensuring minimum damage to military and civilian installations. Read more

District administration on May 7 said schools in Jodhpur will remain shut from May 8 until further orders as tensions between India and Pakistan rise following Operation Sindoor.

As part of the emergency contingency plan, several vehicles and buses have been kept on standby in Baramulla to evacuate the civilian population if the situation escalates. Large-scale damage to infrastructure and civilian lives has occurred due to Pakistan’s shelling.

Over 500 vehicles have been stationed in Baramulla this includes buses and other vehicles.

A day after the Indian armed forces targeted terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pak-occupied-Kashmir as part of 'Operation Sindoor', Pakistani troops resorted to heavy cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Thursday.

As per reports, Pakistani troops targeted civilian areas in the Karnah area and fired shells and mortars after midnight. Read more

During the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked fire using small arms and artillery guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor areas in J&K.

Indian Army responded proportionately. Artillery fire continued throughout the night as well.
