India, EU prepare blue print for collaboration in trade, tech, investment, security, mobility and more

India, EU have prepared a blue print for collaboration in trade, technology, investment, innovation, green growth, security, skilling, mobility, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 28.

On FTA, PM Modi said, "We have told our teams to conclude a mutually-beneficial India, EU FTA by end of this year."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in New Delhi on February 27 for strategic discussions with PM Modi that will include greater access to Indian market, at a time when both EU as well as India are dealing with America’s tariffs as part of Trump’s America First agenda.

PM Modi further said that India, EU have agreed to strengthen collaboration on Semicon, AI and  high performance computing.

PM Modi said that a bold, ambitious India, EU roadmap will be launched during the next India-EU summit. "We will create a bold, ambitious India, EU roadmap for beyond 2025," he said.

On green energy and electric vehicles (EVs), PM Modi said, "We have decided to conduct a Green Hydrogen Forum and Offshore Wind Energy Summit. India, EU decided to conduct joint research on EV batteries, marine plastics, green Hydrogen."

India, EU agreed to take concrete steps to take forward IMEEC ( India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor) plan, PM said. "I am certain IMEEC () will work as an engine to drive global commerce, sustainable growth, and prosperity," he added.

Speaking on visas, PM said, "We welcome EU's new visa scheme cascade and it will give better mobility to India's youth."

Touted as an ‘unprecedented trip,’ von der Leyen is accompanied by 27 EU commissioners.

India, EU agreed on deepening cooperation on AI, said European Commission President.

"Have been working on building robust supply chains on semicon with India as well as on a common tech agenda," she added.

She also said that India, EU trade have tripled over the past two decades. "India, EU industrial associations have agreed to closely cooperate on 6G," she further said.
