India on Wednesday blocked the X account of Chinese state-run media outlet 'Global Times' for spreading fake news over Operation Sindoor. The Chinese mouthpiece's page on X, formerly Twitter, reads 'account withheld'.
In addition, the government also blocked Chinese news agency Xinhua News's X account.
While Global Times is an English tabloid newspaper under the Chinese Communist Party-owned People's Daily, Xinhua is the official news agency of China.
Last week, it reported that Pakistan Air Force (PAF) had "shot down Indian fighter jet in response to overnight airstrikes carried out by India at multiple locations in Pakistan" while also citing sources from the Pakistani military.
India then slammed the Chinese mouthpiece for its coverage of Operation Sindoor and asked the portal to 'verify facts' and 'cross-examine sources' before pushing out fake news.
Under Operation Sindoor, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes destroyed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) base Muridke. India's response came in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people - mostly tourists.
“Dear Global Timesnews, we would recommend you verify your facts and cross-examine your sources before pushing out this kind of disinformation,” the Indian Embassy in China said in a post on X, responding to the tabloid's coverage of Indian military strikes targeting Pakistan’s terror infrastructure.

Earlier today, India outrightly rejected China's attempts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. Terming as 'preposterous', the government said that such attempts will not alter the "undeniable" reality that Arunachal 'was, is, and will' always remain an integral part of India.
"We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
"Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically. Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India," he added.
