The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall warning in Tamil Nadu for October 19.

An orange alert has been declared for many districts, including Thiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakkurichi, Thiruvannamalai, Ranipettai, Vellore, Tiruppattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, and Kanyakumari, as well as Puducherry.

Residents are advised to take precautions to ensure their safety during this period of heavy rainfall.

The weather department's latest bulletin stated that Tamil Nadu can expect “scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall” until October 25.

Also, isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on October 20, 21, and 24.


Authorities issued an advisory allowing employees of IT companies to work from home from October 15 to 18 due to heavy rains.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Karnataka on October 20 and 21 and in Coastal Andhra Pradesh on October 24.
