Heatwave to ease in several states across India from May 1; IMD predicts thunder, hail storms

Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to see thunderstorms, lightning, and duststorms with winds up to 40–60 kmph between April 30 and May 4.

IMD has predicted an ease in heatwave conditions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that thunderstorms and hailstorms are likely in several states in India.

Predictions by the weather unit have said that the eastern, central and northwestern regions of India are expected to receive lightning, strong winds and heavy rainfall, thus easing the heatwave conditions from May 1.

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are projected to persist over parts of northwestern and western India till April 30 and will ease going forward.

According to the weather report, thunderstorms and hailstorms are likely in East and Central India. These thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected to be scattered with widespread light to moderate rainfall. Gusty winds are likely over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal through May 3.

Meanwhile, isolated hailstorms are expected in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal, especially on April 29. IMD said that Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over Odisha from April 29 to May 1.

For Delhi-NCR, the weather department has predicted a transition from clear skies to partly cloudy skies . Gusty winds up to 50 kmph on May 1 and 2 are likely in the National Capital Region. The maximum temperature in the area will range between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius.

Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness an active western disturbance. This disturbance would also be witnessed by Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and would last from May 1 to May 5.

Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to see thunderstorms, lightning, and duststorms with winds up to 40–60 kmph between April 30 and May 4.

Apart from that, dust storms are particularly likely over East Uttar Pradesh (April 29–30), Punjab, Haryana, Delhi (May 1), and Rajasthan (May 1–5).

Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are expected to continue to see isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms, with a chance of thundersqualls (50–60 kmph) over North Interior Karnataka on May 2–3.

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected over Saurashtra & Kutch (April 29–30), West Rajasthan (April 29–May 1), Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, and East Rajasthan (April 29–30).

Meanwhile, IMD predictions have shown that hot and humid conditions will also affect Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Gujarat, Marathwada, and parts of Maharashtra till May 1.
