Gau rakshak dies after being hit by cow smugglers' truck; villagers stage blockade in Mathura

A cow vigilante, identified as Chandrashekhar and popularly known in the region as "Farsa Wale Baba", was killed in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district after he was allegedly run over by a vehicle linked to suspected cattle smugglers during a late-night chase.

The incident, which took place in the Kosi area, near Navipur village under the Kosi Kalan police outpost limits, came to light early on Saturday morning.

His supporters and local cow-protection activists have alleged that the incident was not an accident but a deliberate act carried out by cattle smugglers, according to a report by News18.

According to reports, Chandrashekhar was reportedly chasing a suspicious truck on his motorcycle, which was allegedly being used for cattle smuggling. As his motorcycle approached the truck near Navipur village under the Kosi Kalan police station area, the smugglers allegedly rammed into him. The impact of the collision was severe and he died on the spot.

Villagers stage protest

After news of his death spread, hundreds of cow vigilantes and locals gathered at the site. The crowd blocked the Delhi-Agra Highway (NH-19) in the Chhata area, leading to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road.

The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the incident and strict action against them.

Police teams reached the spot and are trying to control the situation.

Officials attempted to send the body for post-mortem examination, but the process was hindered due to the protest and the traffic blockade. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation of tension.

Yogi Adityanath takes cognisance

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the incident in Kosi Kalan, Mathura and has expressed condolences to the bereaved family. He has also directed officials to reach the spot immediately while ordering strict action against those involved, asserting that no culprit will be spared.
