A growing rift between gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar has now ended in a complete split, sources told NDTV, make it more difficult for police and intelligence agencies to dismantle their criminal operations.
The sources told NDTV that the information came from interrogations of associates linked to both gangs. Bishnoi is currently in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Jail, while Brar remains at large, reportedly running his gang from the United States, where he has been based since 2017 after fleeing India
According to sources, Goldy Brar has now joined hands with Azerbaijan-based gangster Rohit Godara, while Bishnoi has formed a partnership with Noni Rana, also known as Surya Pratap, who operates from Canada.
Noni Rana is the younger brother of notorious Haryana gangster Kala Rana, aka Virendra Pratap.
Senior police officials from Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi have convened with the National Investigation Agency to assess the fallout of the Bishnoi-Brar split on ongoing investigations and law enforcement strategies.
According to the NDTV report, the rift between the two gangsters reportedly began following the arrest of Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, in California in November last year for illegal entry into the US.
Anmol, wanted in several high-profile cases including the 2023 assassination of ex-Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, is currently facing an extradition request.
Lawrence Bishnoi has filed for political asylum in the US. In March, American authorities sought additional details on the charges against Anmol Bishnoi, including evidence and financial records.
Intelligence sources told NDTV the split deepened because Bishnoi felt that Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara did support his brother during the bail process.
Although Anmol eventually secured bail, he was required to wear a GPS tracking device.
Following this, Bishnoi severed ties with Brar and allied with Noni Rana.
Lawrence Bishnoi and Noni Rana have reportedly worked together over recent months, with Rana’s network conducting ransom and extortion calls and collecting money for Bishnoi’s operations.
On the high-profile murder of Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moose Wala, Goldy Brar told the BBC in January,"In his arrogance, he [Moose Wala] made some mistakes that could not be forgiven... We had no option but to kill him. He had to face the consequences of his actions. It was either him or us. As simple as that."
Apart from Moose Wala and Siddique’s killings, both the Bishnoi and Brar gangs have been linked to multiple threats against Bollywood star Salman Khan, including an April 2024 attack where gunmen fired shots at the actor’s Mumbai apartment in Bandra while he was inside. The actor was unharmed, and the attackers were later arrested.
