Marking a break from the showy presentations of his previous term, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday quietly presented scaled-down models of Amaravati's planned government buildings, according to The Indian Express.
The miniatures, displayed without much ceremony at the 11th Amaravati Property Festival in Vijayawada (September 19-21), offer citizens a preview of the state capital's proposed infrastructure. AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) Commissioner K. Kanna Babu said the models are intended to give the public a clear picture of what the projects will look like once built.
Featured in the display are designs for the Legislative Assembly, High Court, a 50-storey State Secretariat, four 42-storey Heads of Department (HoD) Towers, and the General Administration Department (GAD) Complex. The models also include proposed metro lines, an iconic bridge, and other transport and civic amenities.
During his previous stint as CM, Naidu had showcased more elaborate concepts - such as a High Court model shaped like a Buddhist stupa and a Legislative Complex inspired by a diamond - designs submitted by Foster & Partners. The current models are described as simpler yet futuristic, with landscaped parks, waterbodies, boulevards, and a redesigned central vista.
APCRDA officials told the Express that the exhibits highlight the administration's pledge to deliver the promised landmark buildings for Amaravati. After the three-day festival, the models will be shifted to the APCRDA Project Office in Lingayapalem for public viewing.
On the same day, the government cleared a proposal to address farmers' concerns about land pooling. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana said many farmers who gave assigned lands for the capital complained that their returnable flats were undervalued because the ownership certificates classified the land as "assigned." Following a review, Naidu directed that the term be replaced with Patta Bhumi (legal deed) on the certificates, the report added.
