India's aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation on September 23 was awarded the ICAO Council President Certificate for an effective safety oversight system and improvement in the effective implementation of applicable International Civil Aviation Organisation Standards and Recommended Practices.
The award was given by International Civil Aviation Organisation during its 42nd session in Montreal. The certificate was received by DGCA's director general Faiz Ahmed Kidwai.
The award acknowledges DGCA's notable improvements across all technical audit areas such as airworthiness, flight operations, legislation, organisation, personnel licensing, aerodrome operations and the eight critical elements of the state safety oversight system.
This is also in recognition of the robust regulatory framework and the comprehensive surveillance and audit mechanisms put in place by DGCA.
An elated DGCA in its statement said, "It remains committed to further elevate its performance and to achieve higher effective implementation scores in the subsequent ICAO audits".
DGCA has already initiated the process to simplify the procedures for ease of implementation by the concerned service providers.
