Delhi Exit Polls 2025: Axis My India, Today's Chanakya predict thumping BJP win in Delhi

With two more predictions forecasting a BJP return in Delhi, the build-up for the February 8 results gets interesting. The BJP has been trying to unseat AAP from power for the last 10 years but has not been able to surpass the Kejriwal challenge. Pollsters now believe that the saffron party has its best shot at power in the national capital - one region that it has not dominated since PM Modi's ascent to the Centre. If the predictions hold, the BJP's winning momentum will get a further boost following its successes in Maharashtra and Haryana last year.

The pollster has predicted 51 seats for BJP and 19 for AAP. This is one of the highest seat share projections for BJP among all the pollsters.

Axis My India's Pradeep Gupta tells CNN-News18 that AAP has edge in Kalkaji seat from where Atishi is contesting. The seat witnessed a three-way clash between Atishi, Congress's Alka Lamba and BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri

The pollster has predicted 49% vote share for BJP and 41% for AAP, also indicating a victory for the saffron party in Delhi

On Wednesday, most pollsters predicted that BJP will return to power in Delhi. A poll of 10 exit polls gave BJP around 41 seats in th 70-member assembly. If the predictions come true, the saffron party will return to power in Delhi after a long gap of 27 years. It will also deal a body blow to Arvind Kejriwal's AAP which has been in power in the national capital for over a decade.

The exit poll has predicted 45-55 seats for BJP in the national capital and just 15-25 for the ruling AAP. For Congress, it has forecast just 0-1. The exit poll has further predicted that BJP will win a vote share of 48% while AAP will get 42% of the votes.

Among the 10 seats in the region, BJP is projected to win 8 while AAP will bag just 2, it has predicted. It has projected a 50% vote share of BJP

In the 10 seats under the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, the exit poll predicted that BJP will win 7 while AAP will get 3. New Delhi is also the seat from where Arvind Kejriwal is contesting the polls. The BJP's vote share (49%) is also projected to be significantly higher than AAP (41%).

According to the projections, among the 10 seats that fall under the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, BJP+ is likely to win 7 while AAP will get 3.

According to the projections, BJP+ may bag 6 out of 10 seats in the region while AAP is projected to win 4.

The projections show AAP and BJP getting five seats apiece in South Delhi. The BJP edges out AAP's vote share by 1 percentage point, according to the exit poll. The saffron party is likely to bag 45% of the votes while AAP will corner 44% in the region.

"I don't believe in exit polls, let's wait for the voters' verdict," Shivakumar told reporters in response to a question. The Election Commission will announce the official results after the counting of votes on February 8.

Buoyed by the exit poll predictions, BJP said it is all set to form its government in Delhi with a "thumping majority" and start working for the all-round progress of the city. The party also asserted that people were "angry" with the ruling AAP and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

:We saw on the ground that there was so much anger among people against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Arvind Kejriwal. They have a hope from the BJP. They want to form a double-engine government in Delhi under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. That's why I am fully confident that a double-engine government of the BJP is going to be formed in Delhi under Prime Minister Modi's leadership which will ensure all-round development for Delhi," BJP national general secretary Arun Singh told PTI.

"I hope that Exit Polls would convert into Exact Polls. People of Delhi have honoured the work of the Prime Minister. People of Delhi wanted a change. They have voted for change. Let the results come the day after tomorrow." On Akhilesh Yadav's statement on the poll panel, he said: "I think this remark is unnecessary. Such remarks on Constitutional institutions are made by those who do not believe in democracy anymore. If he has stopped believing in democracy, Akhilesh Yadav should first step down from his post."

"Not only exit polls, but the actual poll will also fetch the same results... Arvind Kejriwal brought Delhi into a state of distress... The people of Delhi have blessed PM Modi to ensure development in the capital under the leadership of the Prime Minister... Only one day is left, everyone will know the actual results," he was quoted as saying by ANI.

"Not only based on the exit polls, Based on my experience also, I can confidently say that this time, the BJP led government is going to form in Delhi. There is no doubt about it. The people of Delhi have decided to choose a government with a double-engine system," the LJP (RV) leader, who is part of the NDA, told IANS.

According to provisional figures released last night by EC, Delhi clocked a turnout of just over 60% in the 2025 elections. The figures are likely to be revised later. In 2020, Delhi recorded a turnout of 62.59%. Among constituencies, Mustafabad had the highest turnout at 69 per cent while Mehrauli recorded the lowest at 53.04 per cent.

On exit poll, Congress candidate from the New Delhi constituency, Sandeep Dikshit, says, "As per the Exit Polls, the BJP may form the government, but I think they have underestimated the AAP. They have presented the AAP as very weak but don't think their condition would be so bad... I am also disappointed in the Exit polls...the Congress would have easily received 17-18% of the votes... Everything would be clear on February 8..."

The blame game between AAP and BJP continued, with both parties accusing each other of indulging in malpractices and violating the model code of conduct. While AAP alleged BJP distributed cash and kept campaign material on polling tables in Jangpura and Kondli assembly constituencies, the saffron party claimed that fake votes were cast in Seelampur by “burqaclad” women.

Axis My India's Pradeep Gupta announced on X, “We will release our Delhi State Election Exit Poll numbers tomorrow 6th February 2025, 6.30 PM onwards after detailed field work, number crunching, detailed analysis and post poll study."

Delhi Exit Poll Results 2025 LIVE: In 2020, exit poll results closely matched the actual outcome, with most predicting a strong AAP victory of over 50 seats. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party ultimately secured 62 seats, while the BJP won 8.

As per the Election Commission of India, voters who are in line after the official polling closure at 6 PM are still allowed to cast their vote.

Voting has concluded in Delhi. Latest visuals from a polling booth located at Humayun Road posted by news agency ANI showed poll officials sealing the electronic voting machines. The official deadline for the voting is 6:30 pm.

Delhi has 1,561,400 registered voters, comprising 837,617 males, 723,656 females, and 1,267 third-gender voters. The electorate also includes 239,905 first-time voters aged 18-19, 109,368 senior citizens aged 85 and above, and 79,885 persons with disabilities.

Exit polls offer an early glimpse into voter sentiment but have been criticised for their reliability. While they have occasionally predicted election outcomes correctly, there have also been instances where exit poll results diverged considerably from the final outcome.

The Election Commission enforces these regulations to prevent exit polls from influencing voters who have yet to vote. It has emphasised that "exit polls cannot be broadcast or published until the voting period has concluded across all parts of India." Additionally, media organizations conducting exit polls must register with the Election Commission and follow a code of conduct to maintain fairness and accuracy.

In India, the conduct and publication of exit polls are strictly governed by Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. This law bans the dissemination of exit poll results through print or electronic media from the start of polling in the first phase until 30 minutes after voting ends in the final phase.

Exit polls are conducted by private firms and media organisations, not government agencies, to assess the public mandate before official results are declared. While widely used globally, their accuracy has frequently been called into question.

An exit poll is a survey conducted as voters leave polling stations, asking them whom they voted for. Unlike opinion polls held before elections, exit polls aim to predict results by collecting real-time voter responses. They are based on the assumption that voters are more likely to give honest answers immediately after casting their ballots.

In 2013, the average of four exit polls projected the BJP in a strong position with 35 seats, just one short of the majority mark, while predicting both AAP and Congress would secure 17 seats each. However, the final results saw the BJP winning 32 seats, AAP outperforming expectations with 28, and Congress trailing with just eight.

Two agencies, Today’s Chanakya and Axis My India, accurately predicted that Congress would fail to secure a single seat. Other polls were also bleak in their projections, with India Today-Cicero giving Congress its highest estimate at just four seats. On average, the six exit polls underestimated AAP’s tally by 22 seats while overestimating the BJP’s count by 21 seats.

In 2015, no exit poll predicted AAP would surpass the 60-seat mark, and only one projected the party winning more than 50 seats. The Axis My India survey, which estimated 53 seats for AAP, was the most accurate. The lowest prediction came from India TV-CVoter, which projected 39 seats.

In 2020, the average of eight exit polls once again projected a resounding AAP victory with 54 seats, while placing the BJP at 15 and the Congress at nearly none. The accuracy of these polls improved significantly compared to five years earlier, as AAP ultimately secured 62 seats and the BJP won eight.
