A 52-year-old doctor was found brutally murdered at his flat in south Delhi's Maidangarhi on Thursday afternoon.
Police arrested a suspect in the case within a few hours. The accused, Sunny Sharma (23), is a nutritionist by profession and used a knife and scissors from the kitchen to commit the crime.
"He was known to the doctor. During preliminary questioning, the accused claimed that he killed the doctor because he behaved inappropriately with him. We are probing further and corroborating the details," said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan.
According to a Times of India report, the doctor's body was discovered around 12 pm on Thursday when his driver arrived to pick him up. The victim, who had stab wounds, appeared to have been assaulted. The murder seemed to have occurred the previous night.
"The doctor was a native of Odisha. He was found dead in his room with a cut mark on his neck and blood scattered all over the floor. A PCR call regarding the murder was received at the Maidangarhi police station at 11.55 am," said another senior officer, as quoted by TOI.
During the investigation, a suspect identified from CCTV footage was detained. During questioning, he revealed that he worked as a nutritionist and supplied health and wellness products.
"He got acquainted with the doctor two weeks ago, and the doctor called him to his house on Wednesday for a diet subscription," said the officer.
The accused visited the doctor’s house to share details of the diet subscription. "The doctor allegedly started misbehaving with him, after which the suspect slit his neck and killed him with a knife," added the officer.
