Cultural programmes for US Vice President JD Vance and his family, which were scheduled to take place in Agra today, have been cancelled after the shocking Pahalgam terror attack that claimed at least 28 lives on Tuesday.

Vance, his wife Usha and their three children were scheduled to visit Agra today. Several performances were scheduled over a 120-kilometre stretch from the Agra Airport to the Taj Mahal. However, in solidarity with the unfortunate Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the performances and programmes have now been cancelled.

Vance arrived in India along with his family on April 21, following which, he went to Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Delhi and a crafts emporium in Janpath. Yesterday, Vance and his family travelled to Jaipur and visited the Amber Fort.

Vance had condemned the attack in Pahalgam yesterday. "Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack," Vance posted on microblogging site X.

At least 28 people were killed in the Pahalgam attack that took place on Tuesday. Among those killed, there are also locals and foreign nationals. Reports said that terrorists gunned down several people in Pahalgam on Tuesday, reportedly after confirming their religious identity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his official trip to Saudi Arabia and condemned the attack. "I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected," he wrote on X.

"Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger," he further said.
