CP Radhakrishnan files nomination as NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate, PM Modi, top BJP leaders accompany him

CP Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for Vice President, filed nomination on Wednesday, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top NDA leaders.

The nomination papers was filed in four sets, each backed by 20 proposers and 20 seconders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead as the chief proposer in the first set, while the subsequent sets will carry signatures of Union ministers and senior NDA leaders, highlighting the coalition’s collective support.

The decision to nominate CP Radhakrishnan for the Vice President post – which was necessitated due to the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar -- was taken unanimously during a key meeting of NDA floor leaders held at the residence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Senior NDA ally and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said the decision was unanimous, with all leaders pledging their full backing for Radhakrishnan’s candidature.

On Tuesday, Radhakrishnan was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other top leaders during the NDA parliamentary party meeting.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, "In his long years in public life, Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji has distinguished himself with his dedication, humility, and intellect. During the various positions he has held, he has always focused on community service and empowering the marginalised. He has done extensive work at the grassroots in Tamil Nadu. I am glad that the NDA family has decided to nominate him as the Vice Presidential candidate of our alliance.”

Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP leader and current Governor of Maharashtra, has had an extensive political and administrative career. He has served as a Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, and is known for his legislative acumen and commitment to social empowerment.

Former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, the joint INDIA bloc nominee, will take on Radhakrishnan in the September 9 vice-presidential polls -- a contest billed as an ideological battle by the Opposition, as numbers favour the ruling BJP-led alliance.
